“As a lawyer and partner at Manning Bradbury, my interactions and relationships with with our clients and team are some of the most rewarding and motivating aspects of my work. Building relationships of trust and confidence is essential to doing good work. I was drawn to return and practice here at home in Newfoundland and Labrador because I recognized the opportunity to build those meaningful connections. As a firm, that’s one of the things that sets us apart – our ability to work closely and directly with clients. When you work with Manning Bradbury, you’re really working directly with Judy Manning and Robert Bradbury.”

What makes Manning Bradbury unique?

“For us, this isn’t just a business – it’s the culmination of many years of friendship and a lot of hard work. Our trust and respect for each other and for our clients is central to everything we do here.  Success in legal matters often comes down to preparation and attention to detail; those are two of our core strengths. Our confidence is derived from our experience and competence. We’re two people who have the tools required to be strong advocates and we work hard to use those tools for the benefit of our clients everyday.”

What do you enjoy most about your day-to-day work?

“My interactions with my clients and our team are some of the most enjoyable aspects of my work. Judy and I have been friends (and sometimes colleagues) since we first met when we started practicing law at the same firm in 2005. Our respective career paths took us to the mainland as young lawyers. Eventually, we both independently made our way back to St. John’s and neither of us has looked back since. Having that long history means we understand each others’ skills and character.”

What made you want to come home after living away?

“It seems like almost everyone who moves away from Newfoundland and Labrador eventually wants to come back. It just takes some people longer than others to realize it. The quality of life and sense of community here are really second to none.”

What does “Home For Good” mean to you?

“No matter where you are there’s a level of satisfaction that you derive from doing good work and bringing about positive outcomes. I’ve worked in other jobs in other parts of the country and I’m very fortunate to have the opportunity to take that experience and those skills and put them to use here in Newfoundland and Labrador.”

What do you do in your spare time?

“Living and working in the middle of downtown Toronto for many years certainly nurtured my appreciation for the fresh air and wide-open spaces we sometimes take for granted here in Newfoundland and Labrador. When I’m not in the office working, I try to make the most of my time at home and keep myself busy with my dogs, working in the garden, raising chickens and keeping bees.”
